Matchstick Media

About Us

We are a London based social media management company specialising in the sports and education sectors. We harness the power of social media to drive purpose, progress and performance. We work with leading organisations across all industry sectors and have specific experience in the sports and education arenas.

We believe the values, and principles, embodied by elite sportsmen and women can be harnessed to create a positive, compelling social media presence wherever you work and whatever you aspire to do.

Our work is based around a fundamental question, ‘Are you a risk, to yourself or employer, or role model in the way you use social media?’

We use the answers to help clients create unique social media strategies which engage, and inspire, the communities they work in, or serve.

Our founder, European Silver medalist Cathy Wood, is a former international triathlete and European medalist over the Ironman distance (two and a half mile swim, 112 mile bike and then a full marathon), a Great Britain diver and Daily Mail journalist.  As an athlete Cathy competed at multiple World and European events for more than a decade. As a journalist Cathy has covered many of the most famous sporting events in the world including, the World Cup, summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. Cathy is also the author of, ‘Paralympic Heroes’, one of the official books of the London 2012 Games.

Using this unique background, as a former international athlete and national journalist, Cathy founded Matchstick Media to show athletes, young people, coaches, staff, parents and corporate clients how to understand and harness the power of social media in order to take control of the way they communicate online now, and in the future.

Our clients come from the sporting, educational and business sectors and include, among others; British Athletics, League Managers’ Association, League Football Education, Women’s Rugby Football Union, Sky Academy, Cheadle Hulme School, Wellington College and Wycombe Abbey.
