Facebook’s messenger service is now available to everyone, regardless of whether they have an associated Facebook account or not. The messenger service allows users to create instant messages with individuals or groups and also allows video chat and voice messaging. Up until now, in order to use the service you have been required to have a full account with the social network. The changes mean it is now possible to sign up for the message service using just your first and last name and a phone number.

Messenger already has more than 700 million monthly users. This is expected to rise significantly over the next few months. The company hope this will make the app easier to access, rivaling other messaging apps including WhatsApp and Jott.

If your children are using Facebook messenger, it is important to be aware of the new changes. Consider holding a conversation around the importance of online identity and only communicating with people you know. Need some advice? We’re here to help.
